Connection Analysis

Reliable connections are at the heart of every steel structure. At SQR Engineering, we carry out detailed connection analyses in accordance with Eurocodes, considering ULS and SLS requirements, to ensure strength, stiffness, and constructability — from standard joints to complex, custom details.


Our work typically includes:

  • Determination of internal forces acting on connections
  • Design and verification of bolted and welded joints
  • Base plate design and anchorage to RC elements
  • Assessment of connection stiffness
  • Reports
  • Coordination with fabricators and review of proposed connection optimizations

Each connection is first checked using hand calculations and then modelled and analysed with advanced software tools, including IDEA StatiCa, RUBSTAHL, Hilti PROFIS Engineering, FIXPERIENCE, etc.

 

Software & Tools:

  • IDEA StatiCa – Advanced finite element analysis and verification of steel joints per EN 1993-1-8
  • RUBSTAHL – Excel-based software from the University of Bochum
  • Hilti PROFIS Engineering – Base plate and anchorage design, including concrete interaction.
  • FIXPERIENCE / Würth Software II – Verification of fasteners and anchor systems.
